How To Trim Men’s Eyebrows With A Trimmer

How To Trim Men’s Eyebrows With A Trimmer? It’s a question I have asked myself, researched about trimming and experimented with different trim techniques. In this article I will go over how I trim my eyebrows using a beard/eyebrow trimmer.

How To Trim Men’s Eyebrows With A Trimmer

To be honest, it can be a little tricky at times. Go too short and it will look like you don’t have any left, too long and you get that bushy look.

The way we approach trimming of eyebrows also depends on if you’re going to be doing it yourself or if you have a helper.

Also, before we begin – I have to point out that I am not a hair dress or barber, this is purely the method I use to trim my own eyebrows. You do this at your own risk, so please take plenty of care when doing so.

Doing it yourself

It’s possible to trim your eyebrows yourself using a trimmer, I do this myself all the time. Personally, I use a Philips Norelco Multigroom trimmer (UK Link for Philips Series 7000) kit to do all my face grooming, including my eyebrows. You can do this using a smaller, more details beard trimmer (many bead trimmers are multi-functional, having attachments for beard, nose, eyebrows and so on).

How to trim men’s eyebrows with a trimmer – my steps

It’s quite simple to do. Below are the steps I take when doing my own.

  • First, I use a fine comb and comb upwards. What this does is evenly move all your eyebrow hair in one direction, the longer strands of hair will show up as they will be longer than most
  • Using the trimmer, I trim these down first to make them even with all the other hairs.
  • Next, I choose an appropriate length for my eyebrows using the length guards that come with my trimmer. Before you trim, take each guard and run it through your eyebrow to see how much hair you will be taking off.
  • Lastly, I fit the guard to my trimmer and move from the bottom of my eyebrow upwards trimming off the excess hair.
  • Repeat these steps for both eyebrows
  • I then look in the mirror using the comb to comb my eyebrows upwards. If any long ones have been missed – or if they re in another region of my head – I use some tweezers to pull the offending hair(s) out.

Doing your own eyebrows can be quite a scary thing. You don’t want to slip and shave off too much. By testing the trimmer guard to make sure you know how much length will be removed is an important step you need to take. You may think that one length takes off less than it does for example.

Trimmers work well when you are wondering on how to trim busy eyebrows.

Having help trimming your eyebrows

The great thing about having help is that they can see how much hair is being removed much easier than you an in a mirror. Of course, you have to be able to trust the person doing the trim.

There are really 2 ways that they can trim your eyebrows. The first one is

  • Using a comb, comb upwards to reveal the longer strands. Then using some scissors (hairdresser scissors), trim them to the length of all the others
  • Next, comb downwards and twist slightly away from the face. What they need to do is reveal the longer hairs that maybe in the middle of your eyebrow
  • Finally, trim off those longer hairs making them more even in length

This way involves them using scissors and a fine comb to cut your eyebrows. It gives a more natural feel but does have the potential to mess up your eyebrows. You could also do this yourself using a mirror.

The second way of doing it is very similar to the doing it yourself steps above.

  • First, they use a fine comb and comb upwards. What this does is evenly move all your eyebrow hair in one direction, the longer strands of hair will show up as they will be longer than most
  • Using the trimmer, they can trim these down first to make them even with all the other hairs.
  • Next, choose an appropriate length guard for my eyebrows, using the length guards that come with my trimmer. Before they trim, take each guard and run it through your eyebrow to see how much hair you will be taking off.
  • Lastly, they fit the guard to my trimmer and move from the bottom of they eyebrow upwards trimming off the excess hair.
  • Repeat these steps for both eyebrows
  • Finally, they can comb they eyebrows upwards. If any long ones have been missed – or if they re in another region of my head – they can use some tweezers to pull the offending hair(s) out.

As I said, this is very similar to doing it yourself – only you get someone actually looking at and working on your eyebrows which could produce a better result.

Finally

Trimming men’s eyebrows is a subject that is a really personal preference thing – doing yourself or getting someone to do it for you. It’s also a personal preference if you use a trimmer or scissors to trim them.

Trimming tools used can also differ depending on how busy your eyebrows are.

Personally, I have only done this myself (well, other than having them trimmed at the hairdressers). The great thing about a trimmer and using the trimmer guards, is, that, if used correctly you will only cut the length of the guard. As long as you checked how much hair this will remove – its simple to do it yourself with the aid of a mirror.

Hopefully this article, on how to trim men’s eyebrows with a trimmer, has given you an idea and some tricks and tips on how to use a trimmer to trim your eyebrows.

I've spent many years looking, learning and trying all sorts of hair and body health and stying. I wanted to share what I've learned through this page as well as open and create a discussion on techniques that may be better than I use now.
