How To Take Care Of Your Hands In Winter – Essential Hand Care

Hand care at winter

Let me ask you, does this sound familiar. You have very active hands. You work with them every day. You use them all of your waking hours. Then winter comes and you notice them starting to dry out, chap or even crack?

Well, let me reassure you now, you’re not alone. Many of us suffer from dry skin each year – myself it can get so back that my skin can crack and bleed.

So, it’s really really important to make sure you look after your hands. Simple things such as moisturising will keep them supple and crack free.

Let’s look at some things you can do through winter to keep your hands in tip-top shape.

Protect your hands with gloves

This first tip sounds simple, but it’s amazing how many of us forget to use gloves when we go out. Take care of your hands with this first tip and protect them when you go out.

Wear gloves to protect your hands and skin from the cold air and make sure they keep nice and snug and warm.

Take care when washing your hands

We all like to keep our hands clean, and doing so can help to keep away infection. However, too much washing, especially with a harsh soap, can remove some of the vital oils and natural moisturiser from your skin.

This is something that I find, I tend to have to wash my hands a lot and I can always tell when I have as my hands seem to dry out quicker.

What we can’t do is not wash our hands. So, the best thing to do to take care of your hands while washing is to wash with lukewarm water and make sure you use a skin friendly soap. Look out for a Neutral 0% soap or liquid soap to use. Simply use a gentle soap to try and take care of your hands.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

You kind of knew that this would be there somewhere. We’ve talked about skin drying, washing and removing the natural moisture from our hands. We need to replace this.

So, to do that you will need to use a good moisturiser and the best thing to do is use it several times a day. If you feel your hands drying out, moisturise. If you’ve just washed your hands, moisturise, Before you go to bed, moisturise.

This is a routine I follow myself. I find if I miss doing this for a day or two I can feel my skin dry out. I start to get cracks appear in the creases of on my hands.

Moisturise, it’s so simple but can save you so much pain.

It really is that simple

It truly is just so simple. Taking care of your hands is an important thing – believe me, I know. When your skin is so dry that your skin cracks when you clench your hand and you see little red lines of blood – well it’s painful and doesn’t really look good.

Be good to your hands, be good to your skin, and the 3 steps in this post will help to make sure you have a good hands winter. Hand care – it surely is a year-round thing.
